Curriculum Mapping Conference: Improving Student Performance through Alignment and Collaboration
Join us in Milwaukee for this two-day interactive workshop designed to help educators deepen their understanding of Curriculum Mapping and curriculum design while learning specific strategies that can be used to launch Curriculum Mapping in a school or district. The conference will be structured around the Four Phases of Mapping highlighted in Heidi Hayes Jacobs’ and Ann Johnson’s new book, The Curriculum Mapping Planner: Templates, Tools, and Resources for Effective Professional Development.
I. Laying the Foundation–Establishing a Prologue for Mapping, Developing a Shared Vision for Mapping, Rethinking Your Support Structure
II. Launching the Process/Getting Started– Creating Individual Maps, Initiating the Review Process, Developing Consensus Maps, Aligning Mapping to State Standards
III. Maintaining, Sustaining, and Integrating the Mapping Process– Using the Review Process to Integrate Assessment Findings Directly in Your Map, Developing an Implementation Plan, and Integrating 21st century Skills in the Maps
IV. Advanced Mapping Tasks– Updating Your Maps with 21st century 2.0 Tools
Participants will learn how to
- design a curriculum for the 21st century
- develop quality maps using sound design principles
- align map components to state standards
- upgrade maps with 21st century content, skills,and
instructional tools
- use the Review Process to impact student achievement
- use Curriculum Mapping as a HUB to connect school
improvement initiatives
- develop a shared vision for Curriculum Mapping
- identify the support structure necessary for implementing
and reaching sustainability
- design an Implementation Plan/Map

One Day Pre-Conference: Curriculum Mapping: "The Nuts and Bolts"
Whether you are new to Mapping or wishing a refresher to deepen your understanding of Mapping, join us in Milwaukee for this one-day Pre-conference workshop. Participants will learn about the purpose of mapping, review the elements on a map, and learn how the mapping process can impact student achievement. This pre-conference has proven an essential basis for generating a successful Mapping initiative.
Questions that will be addressed during this one-day workshop include:
- What is Mapping?
- Why Map?
- What are basic tasks schools carry out with Mapping?
- How can we launch our Mapping program successfully?
- How do we engage our staff actively in the process?
- How can Mapping impact student achievement?
- How can technology support the Mapping Process?
- How can Mapping serve as a HUB for all school improvement efforts?
Heidi Hayes Jacobs, President of Curriculum Designers, has served as an education consultant to schools and organizations nationally and internationally. Her work in Mapping, Active Literacy, and Curriculum 21 provides the structural frameworks for schools working to update their curriculum for 21st century learning. |
Susan Udelhofen is an experienced classroom teacher and national staff development leader who has provided consultation services throughout the United States to thousands of educators from small, large, rural and urban school districts, education agencies, colleges and universities. She is the author of the best-selling book, Keys to Curriculum Mapping, published by Corwin Press. |
Patrice Ball is the K-12 language arts curriculum specialist for the Milwaukee Public Schools. She has worked with educators at all grade levels and is currently an instructor in the Master’s program at Alverno College and a writing consultant with NWP. |
Earl Nicholas serves as Director of Communication for Curriculum Designers. An experienced mapper and mapping facilitator, Earl has also served as a software consultant since 1979, and as the district-wide mapping facilitator for a large suburban K-12 school system. Earl’s effective combination of technology expertise and classroom experience provide a strong base for Curriculum 21. |
